Creating IP Pools, Blocks, and Assignments Estimated Reading Time: 1 Minutes Ubersmith organizes IP address space in three levels: IP Pools contain IP Blocks, and IP Blocks contain the individual addresses used for IP Assignments. Creating an IP Pool Go to Settings > IPs & Networks. Click Add New Address Pool. On the Details tab, enter a Pool Name (for example, "ARIN Delegation" or "RFC 1918"). Set Facility to restrict the pool to one facility, or leave it at All Facilities. Set Auto-assignment to Yes to let Ubersmith suggest this pool's blocks when creating assignments. Set it to No to exclude the pool from suggestions. Enter an optional Description. Note: The Alerts tab sets pool-level monitoring, not IP creation: Maximum Utilization (percent full before the pool status turns to alert), Minimum Subnets (how many free subnets of a given size the pool must keep), and Alert Email (where alert notifications go). Click Save, or Save & New to add another pool immediately. Creating an IP Block From the IPs & Networks page, click a pool's name to open its blocks list. Click add block. Enter the Network (CIDR) for the block (for example, 192.168.0.0/24). Enter a Priority. Ubersmith prefers lower priority numbers when suggesting addresses. Set Auto-assignment to Yes or No for this block. Enter an optional Description. Click Save, or Save & New to add another block immediately. Note: A block does not set its own facility. It uses the facility of the pool that contains it. Assigning IP Addresses Once a pool contains at least one block, you can assign its addresses. Go to Devices > IP & VLAN > IP Assignments to view and add assignments across all devices, or add an assignment from an individual client or device record. Click Add New IP Assignment to assign an address to a client, service, or device.
