Adding Device Types Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes You will first need to add a device type group, as a higher-level category, then add device types to the corresponding groups in which they belong. Accessing the Device Types Page From the Ubersmith Dashboard, click Settings. The Ubersmith Settings page appears. From the Devices section, click Device Types. The Device Types page appears. Adding New Device Type Groups From the Device Types page, click Add New Device Type Group. The Add Device Type Group page appears. Complete the Details tab In the Name field, enter the name of the device type. Complete the Custom Fields tab You define the fields that display in this tab. Any custom field can be defined in the Custom Device Fields page. The Applicable tab lists all your existing devices so you can assign the custom field to any of them. Click on the Custom Fields tab. For each device, select either Yes, Required, or No. Click Save or Save & New. Adding Device Types From the Device Types page, click add type. The Add Device Type page appears. Complete the Details tab In the Type Name field, enter the name of the device type. In the Device Type Group field, select a device type group. In the Connection Note Type field, select a connection node. In the Client Visible field, select Yes if you want your clients to view this through the Client Portal, or No if you do not want this visible. In the Block Device Deletion if Connected field, select Yes if you want to prevent the device from being deleted if it has connections, or No if deleting the device with connections is allowed. Complete the Physical Info tab In the Rackable Device field, select Yes if the device can be installed into a rack or No if the device can not be installed. In the Rack Units field, select the number of rack slots the device will require. In the Width field, type the width of the device then select either inches or feet. In the Depth field, type the depth of the device then select either inches or feet. In the Editable Dimensions field, select Yes if you want to be able to change the rack dimensions for a specific device, or select No if you want the physical information to be view-only. In the Front Image field, click Choose File, navigate to the location of your jpep, png or svg xml picture, select the image, then click Open. In the Back Image field, click Choose File, navigate to the location of your jpep, png or svg xml picture, select the image, then click Open. Complete the Interfaces Sets tab This tab automatically creates interfaces based on the device type. You can define the interface type, how many ports/interfaces exist, and what the sequential naming pattern should be. Click Add set. In the Number of interface field, type the total amount of ports or other connection types that exist for the device type. In the Type field, select the type of device. In the Name Pattern field, type the naming pattern that the system should use to automatically create each interface. When creating the interfaces, {num} will be replaced by an incremental number, such as eth0, eth1, eth2, eth{num}-out etc. It can be placed anywhere in the field. In the Private field, select Yes if the interface is not billable, or select No if the interface is billable. In the Prohibit Automated Management field, select Yes if you want to block another management service module from making changes to this device type, or select No to enable another management service module to make changes to this device type. Click Add to add the set Complete the Configurable Fields tab The Configurable Fields tab lists all your existing custom device fields so you can assign them to the device type. For each custom field, select either Yes, Required, No, or Default. Click Save or Save & New.
