Adding Tax Engines Estimated Reading Time: 2 Minutes A tax engine is an external service that calculates taxes. Ubersmith can use the SureTax tax engine. SureTax calculates sales and use taxes for many jurisdictions in the United States and Canada. If you do not use a tax engine, Ubersmith uses its internal tax engine and the tax rates that you add. For more information, refer to the article "Adding Tax Rates". You must have a SureTax account. Get your SureTax client number and validation key from SureTax. Add a tax engine Go to Settings > Taxes > Tax Engines. Click Add New Tax Engine. The Add Tax Engine window opens. Complete the fields. See the table below. Click Save. Field Value Name A name for the tax engine, for example SureTax. Type SureTax. Username Your SureTax client number. Password Your SureTax validation key. Server api.taxrating.net. You must select the tax engine again on each service plan and service. Use the tax engine for a service plan After you add a tax engine, select it on each service plan that it must calculate taxes for. Open the service plan. For more information, refer to the article "Adding Service Plans". In the Applicable Taxes box, click edit. In Default Tax Engine, select the tax engine. The SureTax fields show. Select the SureTax codes for the services of the plan: Default Situs Rule (US/Canada) and Default Situs Rule (Non US/Canada): the rule that SureTax uses to find the tax location. Default Transaction Type Code: the type of service for SureTax. Default Setup Fee Situs Rule and Default Setup Fee Transaction Type Code: the same codes for setup fees. To type a code that is not in the list, click edit next to the field. Click Update. New services of the plan use the tax engine and the codes of the plan. You can change the tax engine and the codes for each service. When a service plan uses SureTax, the tax rates of the internal tax engine do not apply to the plan. To use your own tax rates for a plan, select Internal Tax Engine.
