Adding Tax Authority Numbers

A tax authority number is the number that a tax authority gives your company, for example a tax identification number (TIN) or an employer identification number (EIN) in the United States, a business number (BN) in Canada, or a VAT number.

You add the tax authority numbers, then select the tax rates that each number applies to. On an invoice, Ubersmith shows the number below each tax that uses it.

Tax authority numbers apply to one brand. If you have more than one brand, select the brand at the top of the page before you add the numbers.

Open the Tax Authority Numbers page

1. Go to Settings.
2. Under Taxes, click Tax Authority Numbers.

The page shows each number with its ID, Label, Tax Authority Number, and Show on Invoices setting.

Add a tax authority number

1. Click Add New Tax Authority Number. The Add New Tax Authority Number window opens.
2. Complete the fields:

• Label: A name for the number, for example EIN, Federal, or State.
• Tax Authority Number: The number, for example 12-3456789.
• Show on Invoices: Set to YES to show the number on invoices. Set to NO to keep the number in Ubersmith but not show it.

1. Click Save. To add another number, click Save & New.

Select the tax rates for the number

A tax authority number does not show on invoices until you select it on a tax rate.

1. Go to Settings. Under Taxes, click Tax Rates. You can also click the tax rate(s) link in the notice on the Tax Authority Numbers page.
2. Click edit on the row of the tax rate.
3. In Tax ID/Numbers, select the tax authority numbers for this tax rate. You can select more than one number.
4. Click Update.

The Tax Rates page shows the numbers of each tax rate in the Tax Numbers column.

On an invoice, Ubersmith shows the label and the number below each tax, for example EIN - 12-3456789. Ubersmith saves the numbers with the invoice when it creates the invoice.
