Ubersmith’s System Requirements Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes The items listed below are required for supported instances of Ubersmith, and are part of our standard Ubersmith terms of service. Support for the Ubersmith hardware and host environment remain the responsibility of the client. However, the Ubersmith support team will maintain the Ubersmith installation and perform upgrades as part of the Ubersmith service agreement. Hardware Requirements The on-premise version of Ubersmith requires TWO servers. The first server hosts Ubersmith's web interface or front end, and is referred to as the instance server. The minimum hardware specifications for the instance server are as follows: Dedicated host or VPS 8GB RAM Minimum 100GB disk space allocated to / . The second server, referred to as the appliance, is responsible for monitoring and polling all infrastructure devices associated with your Ubersmith instance. This machine's work is extremely disk I/O intensive, so we suggest installing the fastest hard drives available. The minimum hardware specifications for the appliance server are as follows: Dedicated host 8GB RAM Minimum 100GB disk space allocated to / . As of Ubersmith 5.0, our containers require the x86-64-v2 microarchitecture level as defined by AMD, Intel, Red Hat, and SUSE. Systems lacking this microarchitecture level will be unable to run our containers, and the error: Fatal glibc error: CPU does not support x86-64-v2 will be encountered. Ensure that your host has the proper timezone configured for your location. The system's time zone will be used by Ubersmith for the display of dates and times within the system. Browser Requirements The following browsers are supported by Ubersmith: Google Chrome Mozilla Firefox Microsoft Edge Operating System Requirements Ubersmith clients arranging for Ubersmith's support team to install Ubersmith must provide a clean, unconfigured install of the latest build of one of the following operating systems for both servers: CentOS Stream 9.x Rocky Linux 9.x (Ubersmith 5.x+ only) Debian 11 or 12 Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Ensure that a 64-bit (x86_64) kernel is configured. No further configuration beyond the base operating system with SSH connectivity is required. If you are handling the installation, please contact Ubersmith support for more information. Notes If you would like our deployment process to automatically configure a Let's Encrypt certificate to secure your web and mail servers, ensure that HTTPS connections are open to the public, and that a DNS 'A' record exists for the URL / address that you plan to use for Ubersmith. If you are configuring an external database host for Ubersmith 4.x, be sure to deploy MySQL 5.7 or Percona Server for MySQL 5.7. If you are configuring an external database host for Ubersmith 5.x, be sure to deploy MySQL 8.0 or Percona Server for MySQL 8.0. Also, ensure that the sql_mode directive is configured as follows: For Ubersmith 4.x:sql_mode = "NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION,NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER"For Ubersmith 5.x:sql_mode = "NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION" Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC) Installation and configuration of Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC) cluster nodes is beyond the scope of support that Ubersmith is able to provide. We suggest following the Percona documentation, which suggests using a minimum of a cluster with three nodes, a load balancer (such as HAProxy) and the clustercheck utility for health monitoring and failover. If you have any questions about configuring Percona XtraDB Cluster, our support team will be happy to answer them for you. cPanel Ubersmith can not run on servers running cPanel or similar control panels.
