Using VLAN Ranges Estimated Reading Time: 1 Minutes Ubersmith allows for the organization of information relating to virtual LANs, or VLANs within the IP Management facilities of the system. VLAN Ranges The 'VLAN Ranges' link in Settings, provides a listing of existing VLAN ranges as well as an interface to create a new VLAN range. Add VLAN Range The 'Add VLAN Range' popup allows you to specify a descriptive name for the range, the range itself: (i.e. something like '1 - 10'), if the VLANs should be shared between devices/clients, and if they are private or public. The private/public option is strictly for organizational purposes; it does not have any additional functionality within the system. You can also enter further descriptive text to describe the VLAN range, if desired. The Facilities tab of the Add VLAN Range popup will allow you to determine which of your facilities this VLAN applies to (i.e. where it can and should be used). Configuring VRRP/HSRP To enable IP reservation for HSRP enabled VLANs, go to Settings, and click the 'General Settings' link in the Device Manager section. This configuration option will allow you to select the criteria for which two addresses should be reserved. IP Groups and VLANs Once you have your range(s) defined, you can go to the 'IPs & Networks' link on the main Device Manager dashboard, and click 'Add a New IP Group'. From here you can specify the VLAN Range and individual VLAN that will apply to the IP assignments you will create within the group. To enable HSRP for the VLAN, check the HSRP checkbox. Once the group is created, you can add IP assignments to it that are apropos to the particular VLAN. You can then make assignments out of this Group/VLAN within the Client Manager and Device Manager.
