Creating Virtuozzo VMs and Devices Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes Once your Virtuozzo VM Host is configured, you can begin to create VMs. You can do this by clicking the 'Create VM' link in the orange 'Actions' section of the VM Host's Device Manager entry. This will open a popup. The base configuration and OS template will be dependent on the configuration on your Virtuozzo VM Host. Please see the Virtuozzo documentation for more information. The 'Name' field is a name you will use to identify this VM. The 'Description' field can be used to provide some additional text to help reference the VM. The 'Hostname' field will include the hostname configured on the VM itself. The 'Root Password' field will configure the password for the root user on the system. The 'Start on Boot' option will configure the VM container to start when the VM Host is booted. When you are happy with the configuration details for the VM, click 'Continue'. The second page of the VM configuration popup allows you to configure some network specific settings. Specifying the nameserver entries will control the configuration of /etc/resolv.conf on the host. You should specify the appropriate DNS recursors for your network for the VM to use. If you are unsure of the settings to use, consult with your network administrator. By default, Ubersmith will attempt to configure the VM with a host-routed virtual network interface, and will secure an IP from the available pool defined on the VM Host. You can modify this configuration, or add additional interfaces. If necessary, click 'add net device' to add an additional network interface to the VM. The configuration details for additional network devices for your Virtuozzo VM is beyond the scope of this document. Consult the Virtuozzo documentation to determine the appropriate settings for the network interface. In most cases, adding an additional network devices is not necessary. Once you have configured the device to your liking, click 'Save'. You will be returned to the 'Virtual Network' configuration tab. Click 'Continue' to proceed with the configuration of the VM. The Virtuozzo software has various templates you can use to pre-install software on the host. Click the checkboxes next to the templates you would like to use. Click 'Create VM' to finalize the VM configuration and instruct the VM Host to create the VM. The VM Host page will refresh, and your newly created VM will be added to the list at the bottom of the page. Click 'start' to start the Virtual Machine. Next, you'll want to create a device that will represent your VM within Ubersmith's Device Manager. You can do so by clicking the 'create device' link. This will open a popup. Since you created a Virtual Machine device type earlier, and added the Virtual Machine Device Module, this device type will be displayed for you. If another device type is preferred, select it from the drop down. Click 'Create' to have Ubersmith create a new device entry and associate the new VM with that device. You will note that the hostname has changed to a link, which you'll be able to click on to take you to the new Device Manager entry for the VM. Viewing the Device Manager page for the VM, you'll note that information specific to the VM is displayed. Your new VM is up and running, and you should be able to log in to it via SSH using the root password you specified during the intial setup.
