Steps

Before you can begin managing your virtual hosts, there is some configuration required within 'setup & admin' Settings. First, you'll want to specify some Device Type Groups and Types to represent the devices you'll eventually create within the device manager. Here's an example configuration we've set up for a Virtuozzo-based setup.

With these groups and types in place, you can configure the VM Host device module for the Virtual Machine Hosts Device Type Group. Click the 'modules' link for the group, and you'll be presented with the following page:

Click 'add module' to begin adding the VM Host device module. You will be presented with a popup.

Change 'Enabled' to 'Yes' to enable the module. Select 'VM Host' from the 'Module' drop down. Client Access can be left as 'No Access' unless you intend to assign entire VM hosts to clients for their use (not typical). Click the 'Config' tab to continue configuration.

For this example, we will be using the Virtuozzo platform. Based our example from earlier, select the 'Virtuozzo VM' as the device type for the 'VM Device Type' drop down. You will also need to configure the details for your Ubersmith DE appliance. You can copy these details from a currently functioning device module. If you are unsure what to enter into these fields, contact Ubersmith support for assistance. Click Save to complete configuration of the module.

The module has been successfully added. You'll want to go back to the main Device Types section, and configure the device module for the Virtual Machine Device Type Group themselves. Click the 'modules' link for the 'Virtual Machines' device type group (similar to the above) and then click 'add module'.

Change 'Enabled' to 'Yes' to enable the module. Select 'Virtual Machine' from the 'Module' drop down. Client Access can be set to 'Edit' if you intend to assign Virtual Machines to clients for their use and management. Click the 'Config' tab to continue configuration.

In this example, select Virtuozzo as the Platform. Click 'Save' to add the module.
